There's a kind of innocence to comments like this:
Instead of dismissing comments such as Hagee's re Katrina as simply cruel or loopy, why don't pundits analyze their content and rebut? After all, by Katrina's arrival, the planned Southern Decadence event was in its 33rd year. Even though organizers canceled the 2005 event due for the following weekend, the hurricane and flood largely spared its particular streets. And in 2006, it returned larger than ever, with 120,000 revelers by 2007.
Hagee, who apparently is a mainstream Republican icon, you will recall, claims that Katrina happened because of the planned Southern Decadence carnival in NOLA.
First off, the "pundits" have no interest in bucking Hagee or the religious right in general. Half of them agree with him, and the other half couldn't follow a rational argument if their paychecks depended on it. Second, most of them don't know the facts and have no interest in learning them. That's not their job -- their job is to promulgate the latest talking points. Third, Hagee is in McCain's camp, so anything he says is OK.
