Through the Looking Glass, Jeremiah Wright Edition

Andrew Sullivan quoting David Frum at NRO:

"The reverend's ravings are good partisan stuff that badly hurt Barack Obama in Pennsylvania and may well inflict damage on him in Indiana and North Carolina too. Fox News in collaboration with Wright's speaking agents and publisher will do its best to sustain the excitement through November. And I'm all for it. Our team needs all the help it can get."

In fact, Obama was so badly hurt in Pennsylvania that he cut Clinton's 20-point lead in the polls down to less than ten in the two weeks leading up to the primary. And of course, we know that among those doing their best to "sustain the excitement" will be Frum and his colleagues at NRO.

Well, I've made up my mind, and I'm going along with a comment at EA Forums: I'm not voting for Jeremiah Wright.

Sullivan is one who has flogged the Wright mantra as much as possible, while pretending not to. He thinks this quote demonstrates how savvy Peggy Noonan is:

Few voters will be more inclined to vote for Barack Obama because his friend, mentor and pastor is extreme. They will think it makes Mr. Obama less attractive. They will not think Mr. Obama handled the challenge with force, dispatch and the kind of instinct that turns dilemma into gain.

Read Noonan's column. It's one of the best things I've ever seen from her, although I readily confess I haven't read that much. It's also a lot more intelligent and sensitive -- and level-headed -- than Sullivan's quote would lead us to believe.

Someone's agenda is hanging out.

(Yes, I know Sullivan claims to support Obama -- or at least, he's against Clinton and McCain -- but Obama's a Democrat, and Sullivan is still pining for a Republican party that never existed. That all has to show up somewhere.)
