We all know that Tony Perkins is a serial liar -- at least, those of us who have bothered to fact-check his statements. Now he's whining about the FRC being designated as an anti-gay hate group. I like this especially:
. . . in fact, they seem more interested in fundraising ploys than fighting wrongdoing.
Pot, kettle, black.
Get this:
"Family Research Council will continue to champion marriage and family as the foundation of our society and will not acquiesce to those seeking to silence the Judeo-Christian views held by millions of Americans. We call on the Southern Poverty Law Center to apologize for this slanderous attack and attempted character assassination."
Lies, in order:
1. No, FRC is doing nothing to support families; it's purely an anti-gay group;
2. No one's trying to silence you, Tony -- you certainly get enough play from WaPo and cable news;
3. Just how many millions are we talking about here? One? Two? Out of 310. I doubt that it's more -- most of us have some moral sense.
John Aravosis did a little research and came up with quite a list. I'm not going to excerpt it here, because one example is worse than the last, and I advise you to read it on an empty stomach. Jeremy Hooper has his own list.
I'll think you'll agree, there's nothing slanderous about FRC's new status.

I'm so tired of hearing groups like FRC whine about being "persecuted" or "attacked" for their views. When is the last time a so-called Christian was beaten half to death and left to freeze tied to a barbed wire fence in a blizzard? The one constant that ties them to the origins of Christianity is that if they didn't have the complaints about persecution to fall back on they wouldn't have much to talk about. Their "Christianity" doesn't resemble anything that comes down to us from Jesus's teachings, and their view of "God's natural order" is so divorced from reality as to be laughable. Tony Perkins needs to investigate a better (or more godly) brand of moisturizer, too -- all that hate he spouts is leaving serious cracks in his face.
Well, we're dealing with a bunch of opportunists who will use any means to gain their ends, which as far as I can tell are power and money. Their main tool is the kind of legalistic parsing that was fashionable among Christian theologians in about the 12th century. They also inhabit a universe that's a mirror image of reality -- everything's reversed.
But take heart -- it's starting to come apart on them, and they're desperate. And the more desperate they get, the shriller they get, and the less credibility they have.
I doubt that moisturizer would help. Witch hazel -- witch hazel might do it, at least temporarily.
