Early Morning Quickie
I'm running this morning, but John Aravosis has some interesting comments on the stuff you find in hygiene products. It's a real problem for those of us who have reactions to fragrances and a few other things (I think my biochemistry is closer to cats than to people -- I have bizarre and sometimes extreme reactions to most pharmaceutical drugs, also -- not actual allergies, necessarily, but heavy side effects). My own thought, which I put in the comments, is that we're overly hygienic in this country, a combination, I think, of the Abrahamic revulsion toward the body and marketing run amok -- god forbid that we should actually smell like people. (Sorry -- I love the way men smell. It can be a real turn on.) Simple cleanliness is all you really need. But then, if shampoo makers can convince you that smelling like a chemical plant is good, they can charge more.
