Welcome to Your Worst Nightmare

Thanks to two of the nicest guys you ever want to meet, neither of whom thinks the Constitution has any relevance: John "Sore Loser" McCain and Joe "It's All About Me" Lieberman.

A bill sponsored by Sen. John McCain and Sen. Joe Lieberman -- a bill that could well pass in the spineless, simpering Congress we have -- would encode into law President Bush's assertion that he could arrest and imprison even American citizens in a military prison indefinitely without charges or any kind of trial.

Read the bill (pdf). It's scary.

I don't trust any president with this kind of power. This is exactly what the constitutional limitations on presidential power were created to avoid. Nor do I trust the Supreme Court to strike it down, assuming anyone can ever get it to trial: how do you sue if you've been disappeared?

Now think about Sarah Palin as president.

Now call your senators.
